Cylinder Head Rebuild Process
Each cylinder head is fully disassembled and carefully inspected. Depending on the application, new or remanufactured valves are installed.
- Mercury 350 and 400R applications receive new valves on every rebuild.
A complete valve job is then performed to ensure proper sealing and performance. The cylinder head is inspected for flatness and corrosion.
- If the head is out of specification, it will be resurfaced.
- If the head is within factory tolerances, it will not be resurfaced.
Not resurfacing heads that are within specification preserves material and allows future resurfacing if needed.
The cylinder head is then reassembled using:
- New valve seals
- Properly set valve lash according to manufacturer specifications
Once completed, the cylinder head is fully prepared and ready for installation onto the short block assembly.
