Limited Powerhead Warranty Policy
Warranty Overview
This Limited Warranty provides coverage against the cost of repairs to your outboard motor powerhead when repairs are required due to defects in workmanship. When properly operated, maintained, and used as prescribed, you can rely on us to provide dependable service.
This warranty provides you with specific legal rights. Please read this warranty carefully and become familiar with its terms and conditions.
Warranty Period
This is a 1-Year / 100-Hour Limited Powerhead Warranty, effective from the date of purchase.
-The warranty is valid for one (1) year from the purchase date or 100 operating hours, whichever occurs first.
-This warranty covers one (1) powerhead repair or replacement during the warranty period due to a remanufacturing defect.
-Once the powerhead has been repaired or replaced under this warranty, the warranty is considered fulfilled and is no longer valid.
Warranty Void Conditions
This warranty becomes null and void if any alterations or modifications are made to the powerhead by the installer or customer, including but not limited to:
- Painting
- Drilling holes
- Adding aftermarket parts or accessories
- Tuning or performance modifications of any kind
Covered Components
This Limited Warranty covers defects in the powerhead only, including:
Major Mechanical Failures:
- Connecting rod failure
- Crankshaft failure
- Piston failure
- Loss of compression
- Cylinder head failure
This warranty applies only to powerheads that have been installed, operated, and maintained according to the guidelines stated in this contract.
Obtaining Warranty Repairs
- The motor must be taken to Verado Source for warranty consideration. Repairs performed elsewhere are not covered.
- Verado Source will not reimburse or pay for labor related to disassembly or assembly performed by third parties.
- All shipping costs (inbound and outbound) are the responsibility of the customer, even if the powerhead repair is approved under warranty.
- During the warranty period, Verado Source will cover:
- Labor costs directly related to repairing the powerhead
- Parts required to repair the powerhead
- Warranty approval is at the sole discretion of Verado Source.
- No labor or repairs performed by any other individual or company will be covered.
Customer Responsibilities
The customer is responsible for ensuring that the outboard motor is:
- Properly operated
- Properly maintained
- Properly stored
All maintenance and operation must follow the manufacturer’s owner’s manual (Yamaha, Mercury, Johnson, etc.).
The owner must notify Verado source of any apparent defect within five (5) business days of discovery and make the motor available for inspection and repair at Verado Source's place of business.
Installation Requirements
- If the powerhead is installed by anyone other than an authorized dealer of the specific manufacturer, the warranty is void.
- Example: A Mercury powerhead must be installed by an authorized Mercury dealer to maintain warranty coverage.
Break-In Requirements
- Customers must strictly follow all break-in instructions listed on the invoice and manufacturer’s break-in schedule.
- Failure to follow break-in procedures will void the warranty.
4-Stroke Powerhead Maintenance Requirement
For 4-stroke powerheads, the following maintenance is mandatory:
- Oil and filter change at 25 hours
- Oil and filter change at 100 hours
These services must be performed at Verado Source and are considered normal maintenance. The customer is responsible for payment at the time of service.
Failure to complete these required services will result in immediate voiding of the warranty.
General Exclusions from Warranty
This warranty does not cover damage caused by:
- Racing, competition, commercial use, or abnormal strain
- Improper or lack of maintenance
- Excessive RPM operation
- Improper propeller selection
- Use of incorrect lubricants, oils, or fuel/oil mixtures
- Accidents or collisions
- Any powerhead work performed by anyone other than Southern Marine
- Marine growth on motor surfaces
- Normal wear and deterioration
- Contaminated fuel or water in fuel tanks
- Missing, damaged, or melted heat tabs on the powerhead
Parts Excluded from Warranty
This warranty does not cover normal maintenance or wear items, including but not limited to:
- Spark plugs
- Fuel and oil filters
- Oil changes
- Gear lube changes
- Shear pins
- Propellers and hubs (including blown hubs)
- Water pumps
- Anodes
- Starter motor brushes
- Power trim and tilt components
Additional Excluded Components:
- Top and bottom cowling and components
- lower unit
- Paint
- Power trim/tilt assembly
- Electrical components
- Fuel system components
Corrosion Exclusion
Corrosion is not covered under this warranty.
Marine environments—especially saltwater—can cause corrosion. Stray electrical currents near docks can accelerate corrosion damage. While manufacturers provide corrosion protection, corrosion-related damage is not covered under this limited warranty.
Customers are encouraged to:
- Tilt the motor out of the water when not in use
- Flush the engine regularly, especially after saltwater use
- Rinse exterior surfaces with fresh water
- Apply corrosion protection sprays
- Replace sacrificial anodes as required
Transferability
This warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original purchaser listed on the contract.

Verado Source makes no other warranties, expressed or implied. All implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose that exceed the terms and duration of this warranty are expressly disclaimed by Verado source. .

Q: What costs are my responsibility during the warranty period?
A: All normal maintenance, non-warranty repairs, accident-related damage, and collision damage.
Q: What are examples of abnormal strain, neglect, or abuse?
A: Examples include running the motor without oil, operating with broken or damaged components, improper transportation or tie-down, or continued operation after a known issue.
Q: Does the warranty cover towing or transportation costs?
A: No. Incidental costs such as towing or transportation are not covered.
